Cold Wine and Sunshine

June has been good to us! We have been busy filling our weeks with creative pursuits and weekends spending time with family and friends. Our garden has been surprisingly productive, allowing us to harvest a variety of lettuces. Having fresh, bright salads for dinner on these really hot days when you don’t want to cook makes you appreciate sowing those lettuce seeds back in March!

We had a great Father’s Day picnic for Poppa Bob, and celebrated his and Michelle’s recent union! We packed a picnic, took a short hike, toasted, dined, and relaxed in style at this beautiful lookout over Lake Sunapee.

One of our goals this year is to spread the word about our little family design business. We’ve been able to participate in a few in-person markets and it has been a wonderful way to connect with people. Keep scrolling to find out where we’re going to be next.

outdoor markets

First Fridays in White River Junction

Our very first market is in the books! We set up a table for the First Fridays event in WRJ at the beginning of the month. We collaborated on the design of the display — Nick built two portable trestle tables from Pine and a variety of shelves from repurposed Red Oak for the display. Erin created the banner, business cards, postcards, product tags, and videos to bring it all together.

Thanks to all the family and friends who came out to see us! And a huge thank you to Cori and the team at Scout Hair Design for lending us your space for the evening!

Sharon Makers Market

Riding the high off of our first market, we thought we’d get out there and do it again! We attended a great little community market in Sharon where we met local artisans and lots of friendly residents. Free ice cream, perfect weather, and no masks. It was a fantastic way to spend the day.

Our beautiful and generous friend Andrew drove up from Boston to visit and help us out! He’s got a great eye and an even better personality. He picked up the camera and snapped some of these lovely photos for us, helped us set up our display, and chatted with the other vendors and visitors. He’s a gem and we love him!

new additions

The Derby Tea Table

This is a design that Nick has been playing with for a few years now, so it’s about time we give it a name...⁣

We're calling this one the Derby Tea Table!⁣

Named after the wharf in our old hometown of Salem, MA, the inspiration for this table came from a trip to the Peabody Essex Museum where a small Federal-style tea table caught Nick’s eye. Since then he's been making variations on this form, experimenting with different angles, proportions, and joinery techniques.⁣

We have two for sale on our online shop, one in Walnut and one in Vermont Cherry – go take a look and tell us what you think!

Refinished Rocking Chair

A few summers ago, we were in Quechee visiting Erin’s mom (sup Barb!) and visited the Quechee Antique Mall. We found this sweet little rocking chair and fell in love with its thin lines and funky upholstery.

Nick took off the tattered upholstery, sanded back the chair, and applied a new mission oak-inspired finish. He made a new seat frame and together we picked out the fabric. It may be old-fashioned, but we're suckers for a good toile pattern. He finished it in time for Erin’s 30th birthday in December and it’s taken us a while to photograph it, but we got there in the end! We love this beautiful addition to our home and it’s well suited with our new Walnut Derby Table.

In Progress

display case for the town of woodstock

The Woodstock History Center commissioned Nick to build an outdoor display case for the center of town. It is a two-sided case that will house small art prints that can be shared with the community. It will be outside for the summer and fall each year, so it’s being built to stand up to the elements.

Constructed from solid White Oak, the base features mortise and tenon joinery with drawbore pins for added strength. The case is also made from solid Oak and is joined using half-blind dovetails. It might seem like overkill but Nick will sleep easier at night knowing it’s built to the best possible quality.

Stay tuned as this project nears completion!
